On Dec. 2 the Quest MUN team put on a demonstration for the Quest Community. They discussed nuclear disarmament and presented both an original resolution and some amendments to it. The original Resolution is as follows.

Acknowledges that nuclear power has acted as a major force of military and national security for many nations throughout the world.
Recalls how detrimental to society the impact of nuclear armament has been, exemplified by the Cold War and Cuban Missile Crisis.
Recognizes the necessity for global security in the modern world.
Bears in mind the purpose of the United Nations’ Charter is to maintain and promote international peace and security among its member states, to develop friendly relations and cooperation among all nations.
Commends the efforts of the United Nations Disarmament and International Security Committee for their work upon battling the worldwide issue of Nuclear armament.
Reminding the committee of the tragic events during WWII in Hiroshima and Nagasaki which were catastrophic for the human race.
1. Urges the nuclear-weapon States to carry out further reductions of nuclear arms.
a) Based on unilateral initiatives,
b) As an integral part of the nuclear arms reduction and disarmament process;
c) Emphasizing the necessity to maintain international security.
2. Calls for the banning of products intended exclusively for the production of nuclear weapons;
a) Fissile material,
b) Other nuclear explosive devices,
c) On the basis of striving towards a unified and peaceful future;
3. Calls for the strengthening of an international legal instrument or instruments to provide assurances of security to non-nuclear-weapon States;
a) Involving major nuclear- armed States,
b) Including clauses for the protection of citizens of both armed and unarmed Nations,
c) Basing these clauses on the International Declaration of Human Rights.
i. Also including clauses to prevent the positioning of nuclear weapons targeting unarmed States.
4. Also calls for the early entry into force and strict observance of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty.
5. Calls for the convening of an international conference on nuclear disarmament in all its aspects at an early date to identify and deal with concrete measures of nuclear disarmament.
a) Asks for a congress to convene at the earliest possible date to discuss the possibility of an international governing body on Nuclear Armament.
b) Suggests Nuclear Armed Nations be sanctioned if still found to possess nuclear weapons after a ten year period.
c) Also suggests a ten year plan to phase out nuclear weapons in armed states.
Further asks that research into nuclear warfare be halted within the next five years.
i. Demands that all Nuclear Armed Nations begin programs within their national boarder to halt the proliferation of Nuclear Weapons.
6. Welcomes and Encourages the efforts to establish new nuclear- weapon- free zones in different parts of the world
a) Suggests the formation of agreements or arrangements freely arrived at among the States of the regions concerned,
b) Asks that these be an effective measure for limiting the further spread of nuclear weapons geographically
c) Also ask that they contribute to the cause of nuclear disarmament.
The amendments presented by France, the United Kingdom, and the Russian Federation changed a few elements of the original and were as follows.
